Our Vision
As this tiny hand wraps around my finger, the vision for a new children’s museum that shares the Bible through interactive exhibits was born. That tiny hand is from our second son, Xander, who was born prematurely in 2005 and was in NICU at TC Thompson in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As we stayed at the Ronald McDonald House and walked back and forth across the street for visitation, the days became long. Knowing the need to get our minds away from the monitors, bells, and images of the little ones, the hospital gave us tickets to the Creative Discovery Museum for us and our nine-year old son, Caleb.
At the museum, Jill and I watched as Caleb was moving from exhibit to exhibit, interacting through fun activities and learning at the same time. A smile never left his face. After a few hours there, I knew I wanted to research and find a children’s museum to go to that was based on the Bible. After many hours of research, it was apparent that there wasn’t a facility in the nation that was like what I was envisioning. Thus was born – Trek Thru Truth – for Cleveland, Tennessee. What better location for a museum for children that shares stories and topics of the Bible through not just seeing, but touching, hearing, smelling, and tasting than Cleveland! From that moment this vision began until today, a long list of board members, volunteers, and sponsors have cometogether. The journey continues…
Have you ever imagined…
…Walking through the Red Sea on dry land?
…Feeling the strength of Samson?
….Climbing a sycamore tree like Zacchaeus?
Trek Thru Truth will accomplish their mission by:
- Telling Bible stories through hands-on, interactive exhibits, art, music, drama, and technology.
- Presenting the stories chronologically to highlight how they build upon each other throughout the Bible.
- Teaching about the 40+ authors of the Bible.
- Providing contextual interpretation by incorporating geography, culture, languages, professions, transportation, architecture, art, and foods from the period.
